Zie 9.

Zie 11.

Bij 3. Trump Threatens ‘Leakers’ With Jail Time Over Reports About Munitions Shortage
Antiwar.com, 6 augustus 2026, https://news.antiwar.com/2026/08/06/trump-threatens-leakers-with-jail-time-over-reports-about-munitions-shortages/
The president also denied a report from The Washington Post that said he lashed out at Pete Hegseth over the depletion of US military stockpiles
President Trump on Thursday threatened “leakers” with jail time over reports about dwindling US military stockpiles as a result of the Iran war, and claimed the US had plenty of munitions available. “The US has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the US as needed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history. The ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down,” the president added.
Some of the most significant reports about the shortage of advanced munitions didn’t come from media reports but from analyses published by the think tank the Center for International Studies (CSIS), which used publicly available data to produce its estimates.
CSIS found that the US has used about 60% of its advanced Patriot air defense missiles and about half of its interceptors for the THAAD missile defense system, though sources told CNN that the US had actually used about 80% of its THAADs during the war. While Trump says that US arms makers are working to produce more munitions, the current rate of weapons use far exceeds the rate at which they can be produced, and it will take years to significantly increase production.
Media reports have also said that the US has used up nearly all of its ATACMS missiles and Precision-Strike Missiles, which were both used extensively in strikes on Iran.
Trump also responded to a report from The Washington Post that said he lashed out at US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over the munitions shortages, which one source told the outlet was part of the reason why Trump held off on his threats to dramatically escalate the war.
Sources told the Post that on the sidelines of a recent cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump vented his frustration at Hegseth over the munitions shortages. The report said that Hegseth then blamed his deputy, Stephen Feinberg, for both the shortages and for failing to ensure Trump was informed about the issue.
“The Fake News, as usual, is spreading false and completely unfounded rumors. I am extremely happy with the job that Pete Hegseth is doing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He said that the Post published the report “despite our telling them their story is completely FALSE” and added that he believed their “fake ‘reporting’ is treasonous.”
Bij 4. ‘We want missiles too’ — Trump responds to Zelensky’s appeal for additional military aid
Kyiv Independent, 7 augustus 2026, https://kyivindependent.com/we-want-missiles-too-trump-responds-to-zelenskys-appeal-for-additional-military-aid/
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Aug. 6 that the United States “needs missiles too” when asked about President Volodymyr Zelensky’s renewed calls for long-range missiles and Patriot air defense systems.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump also commented on former President Joe Biden’s military support for Ukraine, claiming Biden had provided “so much” military assistance. “We want missiles too,” Trump said. “Biden gave (Zelensky) $300 billion worth of ammunition.”
Trump argued that the military aid had depleted U.S. stockpiles, saying the country is now rebuilding its arsenal and relying on munitions it otherwise may not have needed to use.
When asked about Russia’s increased attacks on civilian targets, Trump said the U.S. was not directly involved in the war. “Look, we’re not involved. We’re separated by an ocean,” Trump stated. He noted, however, that he was troubled by the war’s casualty toll. “I hate to see 25,000 young people a month get killed,” Trump said, claiming that Russia and Ukraine are losing “on average 25,000 people each month, mostly soldiers.” As Russia continues to increase the number of ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine, Kyiv is seeking ways to strengthen its defenses. Zelensky has appealed to Trump for a license to produce Patriot air defense missiles domestically, while the White House said it has not yet made a final decision on the request.
Bij 5. Russia says no proposal from Ukraine to resume diplomatic contacts
Anadolu Ajansi, 6 augustus 2026, https://www.aa.com.tr/en/eurasia/russia-says-no-proposal-from-ukraine-to-resume-diplomatic-contacts/4020406
Russia received no proposal from Ukraine to resume diplomatic contacts as part of efforts to resolve the conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Alexey Fadeev said on Thursday. Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Fadeev said Moscow remained ready to consider “concrete constructive ideas” from US negotiators on a potential settlement.
“No such proposals have been received from the Ukrainians,” Fadeev said, recalling that Kyiv had unilaterally withdrawn from discussions held in Istanbul late last year without providing an explanation. “If American negotiators have any concrete constructive ideas, we are always ready to discuss them.”
According to Fadeev, Russia’s position on the principles of a settlement remains unchanged.
He pointed to proposals outlined by President Vladimir Putin in June 2024 and said any political and diplomatic process should take into account Russia’s legitimate interests, including security concerns. “We prefer political and diplomatic ways, but we will be able to achieve our goals under any circumstances,” he said.
The diplomat also attributed what he described as “volatility” in statements from US officials to Kyiv’s “chronic inability to negotiate.”
Fadeev criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent efforts to secure additional military support from Washington, saying the practical results appeared limited.
The official specifically addressed discussions about potentially producing Patriot air-defense missiles in Ukraine, claiming that such production could take years to establish and that concerns over technology security could delay the process. Russia also accused Western countries of encouraging Ukrainian drone attacks against Russian territory.
Fadeev pointed out that Western states supply drones and components to Ukraine, which are used in attacks on Russian civilians.
The diplomat said Russian law enforcement agencies were continuing to collect evidence for potential criminal proceedings against Ukrainian officials, military personnel, commanders and foreign nationals whom Moscow accuses of involvement in attacks.
Russian-Armenian relations
Turning to Russian-Armenian relations, Fadeev said Armenia’s leadership is seeking to increase pressure on Moscow rather than pursuing constructive dialogue. “In the context of Russian-Armenian relations, instead of constructive dialogue we see attempts by Yerevan to raise the stakes or simply resort to blackmail,” he said. The official cited instances of pressure on Russian businesses operating in Armenia, legal disputes involving Russian companies and demands for financial compensation connected with Russian-owned assets in the country.
Fadeev also criticized Yerevan’s “demonstrative” engagement with Kyiv, saying it raised questions about Armenia’s commitment to an alliance with Russia. “We hope for a more realistic and balanced approach,” he said. Armenia has been seeking closer ties with the EU while maintaining membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Moscow has warned that EU integration would ultimately be incompatible with Armenia’s participation in the EAEU and could result in the loss of economic preferences associated with the bloc.
Bij 6. What did Ukraine’s ’40-day campaign’ against Russia deliver?
Kyiv Independent, 6 augustus 2026, https://kyivindependent.com/did-ukraines-40-day-campaign-against-russia-change-anything/
In late June, President Volodymyr Zelensky tasked Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) with launching a “40-day influence operation” designed to compel Russia to “end the war.”
In the weeks following, Ukraine’s mid- and long-range drones scored some headline-grabbing successes — the crippling of dozens of Russian tankers supplying occupied Crimea and, perhaps most notably, the destruction of several warehouses across the country belonging to online retailer Wildberries.
But 40 days later, Russia’s war in Ukraine still rages, and Russian President Vladimir Putin shows no signs that he intends to stop any time soon. “I think the ultimate aim was not achievable given Putin’s commitment to the war and Russian society’s general apathy to and accommodation of the war,” Dr. Jade McGlynn, head of the Ukraine and Russia Program at King’s College London, told the Kyiv Independent.
But according to Ukrainian officials familiar with the planning, one of the operation’s central political objectives was looking further ahead than the stated 40 days — to force Russians to experience the consequences of the war more directly with a view to influencing elections in September.
The stated results
Details of what the campaign actually constituted remained sparse until it ended, when the SBU released a statement on Aug. 4 clarifying the actions that the agency claimed were part of it. According to the statement, the campaign “was aimed at simultaneously weakening key elements of the Russian military machine.”
One of the significant military developments in the timescale of the “40-day operation” was a series of strikes against Russian oil and cargo vessels by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces in the Sea of Azov, a part of Ukraine’s months-long campaign to isolate the Crimean peninsula with drone and missile strikes.
Other long-standing Ukrainian military campaigns continued during the period. Ukraine’s systematic demolition of Russia’s oil industry continued, leading to shortages of diesel, gasoline, and other refined petroleum products across Russia, and long queues at gas stations. “These successful strikes significantly hampered the resupply of Russian units on the front line and disrupted logistics and the supply of ammunition and fuel,” Nazarii Barchuk, an analyst at the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center, told the Kyiv Independent.
The unstated achievements
The SBU statement claimed that the campaign included “systematic destruction of military aviation and air defense,” “kinetic sanctions on the Russian fuel and energy sector,” “defeat of the ‘shadow fleet‘,” as well as strikes against targets on the battlefield. It made no mention of Wildberries. Although Kyiv publicly argues that Wildberries was targeted because it facilitated the sale of dual-use goods, officials speaking privately acknowledged another objective.
While declining to confirm whether strikes on Wildberries facilities officially formed part of the campaign, one Ukrainian official said the attacks fit that broader strategy by disrupting Russia’s strained wartime economy while affecting the daily lives of ordinary citizens.
Ukraine began striking warehouses of the Russian logistics giant “Wildberries” overnight on July 18. Frequently compared to the U.S. retail giant Amazon, Wildberries holds about 45-50% of the Russian e-commerce market, with a turnover of around $75 billion annually.
Wildberries also supplies significant amounts of explicitly military materiel, such as body armor, fiber-optic spools for military drones, and equipment that allows civilian drones to be converted to drop grenades, making the chain a potentially legitimate military target under international law.
As well as the direct financial impact on Wildberries itself, and the associated damage to the Russian economy of the loss of its e-commerce giant, the chain holds stock for tens of thousands of Russian small businesses.
As of Aug. 4, Ukraine claimed to have hit 15 Wildberries warehouses, damaging or destroying 13 of them. Reports of further strikes have emerged since then.
Russia also has more than 94,000 Wildberries pickup points, most of them operated by franchisees. 57% of Russians now report feeling anxious because of Ukrainian drone attacks.
In many smaller towns, those locations have become essential distribution hubs where residents collect everything from school supplies to household goods. “When Russians prepare their children for school, they often order uniforms, notebooks, pencils, and other essentials through Wildberries,” one Ukrainian official said.
Internal Ukrainian documents reviewed by the Kyiv Independent indicate that 57% of Russians now report feeling anxious because of Ukrainian drone attacks. According to one Ukrainian official, exposure to strikes further increases those levels of anxiety. The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the data, and officials declined to explain how it had been collected.
McGlynn told the Kyiv Independent she believed the operation had “clearly exacerbated existing strains and brought the war home to lots more people who wish to ignore it and its consequences.”
The election
Another factor shaping Kyiv’s thinking is Russia’s parliamentary election, scheduled for Sept. 18-20. Ukrainian officials say they do not expect genuinely independent opposition parties to enter parliament. Instead, they see the vote as an opportunity to weaken confidence in the Kremlin by showing the gap between public sentiment and official election results. “If Russians go to the polls and vote against Putin’s United Russia, then see the official results showing the party winning 60%, they’ll understand the numbers were fabricated,” one Ukrainian official said. “That changes how people perceive the legitimacy of the system.”
Officials in Kyiv remain skeptical that any political party can gain parliamentary representation without Kremlin approval. They pointed to nominal opposition groups, including Yabloko, which campaigns on a platform calling for peace, but argued that no meaningful parliamentary opposition can emerge without Moscow’s consent.
One Ukrainian official said, citing internal documents, that Kyiv believes the rating of United Russia stands at around 30-33%, the lowest ever.
The discontent inside Russia
Officials also said that some top Ukrainian envoys remain in contact with several Russian business figures. According to the officials, those conversations have become noticeably more pessimistic in recent months, particularly after Ukraine expanded strikes against economic targets such as Wildberries. Several Russian businessmen have privately voiced frustration over the economic costs of the war, one Ukrainian official said. Even as Kyiv continues to publicly promote proposals for an air ceasefire and a broader halt to hostilities, Ukrainian officials insist the decision ultimately depends on Putin.
The officials said Russian businessmen and oligarchs have repeatedly suggested that Putin might eventually be willing to compromise, only for the Kremlin to reject any such possibility.
In Kyiv’s assessment, this shows that, despite frustration among parts of Russia’s business elite, authority over decisions about the war remains concentrated in Putin’s hands. “This creates a dangerous precedent for him,” the official said.
Bij 7. Ukraine-Russia war latest: Putin could attack Nato member to test alliance’s resolve, report on US intel warns
The Independent, 7 augustus 2026, https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-russia-war-putin-zelensky-oil-refineries-drone-strikes-b3029065.html
Onderkant formulier
New US intelligence assessments have reportedly warned that Russian president Vladimir Putin could test Nato’s unity with a limited attack on an alliance member within the next few years.
According to US officials cited in a Wall Street Journal report, the scenarios under consideration include cyberattacks, sabotage or a small-scale ground incursion, rather than a full-scale invasion.
The assessment also comes as the US faces shortages of key munitions – including long-range missiles and Stinger air-defence missiles – after supplying Ukraine and conducting military operations against Iran.
Meanwhile, Lithuania also fears that Putin may be planning a “false flag” strike on the Baltics, following a spate of recent drone incursions along Europe’s eastern frontier.
Defence minister Robertas Kaunas said yesterday that his country believes that Russia is considering using Ukrainian-made drones to stage provocations against the region.
“Lithuanian intelligence is working, we are collecting information and seeing it,” he told reporters in Vilnius, adding that critical infrastructure had been strengthened to safeguard against an attack.
He said the Lithuanian military and all security institutions were monitoring the situation, but reassured that there was no singular “direct threat” at present.

Berliner Zeitung, 6 augustus 2026, https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/article/warum-russische-raketen-das-lager-einer-deutschen-firma-in-der-ukraine-zerstoeren-10267316
„Tonnen vernichteter Produkte“: Was Liqui Moly zum Angriff sagt
Mehrere Unternehmen bestätigten schwere Schäden an ihrer Logistik:
Financieel Dagblad, 7 augustus 2026, https://fd.nl/politiek/1606803/toch-geen-munitie-aan-boord-van-antonov-in-leipzig.
Brabants Dagblad, 6 augustus 2026, https://www.bd.nl/buitenland/signalen-dat-rusland-achter-drones-in-leipzig-zit-hybride-oorlog-tegen-duitsland-is-in-volle-gang~ae035ea1/
Russia drone company chief injured in car bombing
Financial Times, 5 augustus 2026, https://archive.ph/9bnUe
Attack on Vladimir Tkachuk is latest targeting prominent figures in the Russian war effort
The head of a Russian drone producer was hospitalised after a car bombing, the latest sign of growing blowback from President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Vladimir Tkachuk, a prominent pro-war blogger and director of manufacturer Uraldronzavod, was in critical condition after the bombing in a small town outside Ekaterinburg, an industrial city in the Ural Mountains, state newswire Tass reported on Wednesday.
The assassination attempt on Tkachuk, whose company produces the Upyr fibre-optic drones that Russia’s army uses on the front lines, is the latest in a string of attacks deep behind enemy lines on prominent figures in the war effort.
Tkachuk’s driver died in the attack, according to local media, which published photos that showed all but the car’s frame had been destroyed. Fellow bloggers said the attack took place on Tuesday, adding that Tkachuk was expected to make a full recovery.
In a separate blast on Saturday, five people died and 21 were injured after a bombing at a private event at an Italian restaurant in Moscow.
Russian exiled independent media and pro-war bloggers have speculated that Saturday’s attack targeted Alexander Chaiko, the head of Russia’s aerospace forces, after his daughter and son-in-law were reportedly hurt. It remains unclear whether the general attended the party or was the target of the bombing.
Ukraine has not taken credit for either of the recent attacks and its intelligence services did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The assassination of top military officers has become so common that Putin extended security measures for 10 senior military officers late last year, according to a person close to European intelligence.
Tkachuk is a leading figure in Russia’s “people’s military-industrial complex” of small-scale start-ups that have produced drones and other equipment for the army since Putin ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He showed off a model of the Upyr, named after a demon from Slavic folklore, to Putin in 2024.
Tkachuk’s blog has more than 660,000 followers on social media app Telegram. The channel posted on Wednesday that the former real estate agent was in a stable condition and said its work would continue as before, using a slur for Ukrainians.
In an interview on the defence ministry’s television channel after he met Putin, Tkachuk said he had been inspired to make drones by Vladlen Tatarsky, another military blogger, who was himself killed in a Ukrainian bombing in 2023.
The Upyr appears to be largely made with 3D printers, according to videos of its production, though Tkachuk has said that 60 per cent of the components it uses are Russian.
The 45cm drone can carry a 10kg package of explosives at a range of “tens of kilometres”, the company said in January. Russia’s armed forces reportedly use them to strike Ukrainian positions, supply frontline units and intercept Ukrainian heavy bomber drones.
Bij 12. Rheinmetall cuts sales outlook after Germany scraps warship project
Financial Times, 6 augustus 2026, https://archive.ph/tpgS1
Tank maker expects €300mn hit this year from cancelled programme but revenues have still grown as defence spending booms
Rheinmetall has said it expects a €300mn sales hit this year after Germany cancelled a multibillion-euro frigate project.
The German arms giant lowered its sales outlook on Thursday, saying that it expected full-year revenues of between €13.7bn and €14.2bn, down from its previous forecast of €14bn to €14.5bn.
The company said that the medium- and long-term implications of the loss of the €15bn F126 programme were “currently being analysed”. Rheinmetall’s shares plunged after Berlin cancelled the F126 project in June and have fallen by about a quarter this year. Rheinmetall had submitted a €15bn bid for the project and had told investors it was highly confident that it would become the lead contractor.
The company said on Thursday that the cancelled project had been expected to contribute less than 3 per cent of its targeted €50bn in annual revenues by 2030.
Despite the setback, Rheinmetall still increased its total sales by 39 per cent to more than €5bn in the first half of the year. Its order book continued to grow, swelling to more than €80bn — up from €56bn in the first half of last year.
Its operating margin — a key measure for Rheinmetall as it seeks to show it can turn booming European defence spending into hard profits — rose to 15 per cent, up from 12 per cent a year ago. Shares in the company rose 1.6 per cent in early trading on Thursday.
Chief executive Armin Papperger said the company’s new naval division was “looking to the future”, adding: “We are working hard to fulfil our current maritime orders as a reliable partner with a high level of expertise, and to secure new ones on the international stage as well.”
The Düsseldorf-based maker of tanks, ammunition and artillery bought its first ever shipyard in March. The €1.5bn acquisition of Naval Vessels Lürssen was driven partly by the expectation that the group would take over the beleaguered programme to build six F126 frigates from the Dutch naval group Damen, which had been bogged down in a raft of problems that caused cost increases and delays. Cancelling the F126 project, German defence minister Boris Pistorius opted instead for up to eight frigates from German shipbuilder TKMS, which he said would be delivered more cheaply and quickly. The decision to cancel the project has caused doubts about Papperger’s strategy at Rheinmetall as well as his reliability.
Bij 13. Twee Twentse bedrijven leiden ontwikkeling Europees raketschild
RTV Noord, 6 augustus 2026, https://www.rtvnoord.nl/verkeer/1427022/defensie-gaat-met-helikopters-boven-het-hogeland-oefenen
Defensie gaat binnenkort zes dagen lang helikopteroefeningen houden boven Noord-Nederland.
Oogtv.nl, 6 augustus 2026, https://www.oogtv.nl/2026/08/kernwapenbombardementen-op-hiroshima-en-nagasaki-herdacht/
